friend friday, a bit late

I've been meaning to introduce Shannon's work for ages now.  She's the brains behind Caravan Pacific, a beautiful collection of classic American lighting and home accessories.  Her lamps are a melding of mid-century and modern form, resulting in pieces that I have been lusting after for awhile now (especially this one).  With the aid of a very successful Kickstarter campaign and a team of craftsmen in Portland, Shannon was able to launch her business.  In fact, she stocks a few of my pieces in her online shop, and I answered a few questions for her about my process.  I hear she has some new things in the works, I can't wait to see them!

Arlie is this incredibly talented lady, working in glass and textiles down in Asheville, NC.  When I first found her work I tried to pick out my favorites and found myself saving every item I clicked on - especially her free handed glass work.  She has a beautiful blog as well, I mean, I could move into her house right now if she'd have me.  In fact, I'm blushing to admit that I first found her through an image of her home and studio, and fell in love with her work soon after!

Also... this weekend I'll be at the PA Guild of Craftesmen show in Wilmington, Delaware (state of my alma mater and one of my best friends) Saturday and Sunday.  Come check it out (and my crazy PVC booth walls!)  I'm booth 208 and I have 4 tickets I can give out if you get in touch!

p.s. my friend Karen (of Skylark Studio) will be there as well, booth 306!

I met Katrina, the artist behind Ball and Chain jewelry at Renegade last month.  She came by and got the first mini teardrop hinged terrarium I made (she sent me a photo of it hanging that I'll share soon).  While we were chatting I noticed the coolest rings on her hands and found out that she makes them!  These are two of my favorites.  The woodgrain effect on her rings is just so spot on, especially with the addition of knots in the wood pattern.

friend friday & some links

I feel slightly silly sharing my friend this week.  You see, even though Sara and I live and work in the same city, have been talking online for awhile now, and even have some mutual friends, we didn't meet in person until this past weekend... in Brooklyn.  Silly, right?  Well, we hope to remedy that now.  Sara is the girl behind girls can tell, a line of housewares and useful gifts all based on her original diagram illustrations.  In her drawings she's broken down everything from SLR cameras, the Brooklyn Bridge, cuts of a pig, a corkscrew, and much more, then printing them by hand on tea towels, note cards, lunch bags, felt coasters, and prints (of course).  You can find all of her creations online or visit her shop in South Philly!

friend friday & some links

I met Linda, of Little Flower Designs, at the last Clover Market (I know, big surprise).  I had actually already seen her work back in February and was immediately enamored with her pieces.  In May I got talking with her about her studio space.  For some reason I find it fascinating to hear about the spaces people have created to do their work.  Maybe it's because my glass is slowly taking over our apartment.  Every now and then I have to push back and try to confine everything so that there is some division between work and home (with greater and lesser success).  Anyway, I love Linda's work and I can't wait to see it and her again this Sunday at Clover!

friend friday & some links

I met Karen of Skylark Studio a few weeks ago and then again at Rittenhouse last weekend.  Not only is she super nice, but her sterling silver jewelry is inspired.  I love all her folk inspired pieces and delicate silhouettes.  She even has a collection based around Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs.  If you want to see her work in person she only has a few more shows scheduled so far this year - next month's Clover Market and then at the PA Guild show in August.

Tomorrow I'll be at the Trenton Ave Arts Festival from 12-6pm.  I hope I can get away from my booth for a bit to check out the kinetic sculpture derby!  I'm in booth 93 near Norris St. (and the derby route!)

friend friday & some links

I should be doing a hundred and three other things right now, but I love the vintage photos that joeyfivecents is incorporating into her new necklaces,  so I had to share.  In fact, all of the photos of new projects she has been posting this past week are just lovely.  I see most of them on instagram (@joeyfivecents), but she's also posted a preview album on her facebook.  I can't wait to see them in person this sunday at Clover Market!

friend friday & some links

via chez-sucre-chez
I had such a hard time choosing an image for this week, because all the needlework that Kimberly Scola does through chez-sucre-chez is so on point (pun intended???).  I especially like her finished pieces with song lyrics, but her patterns and kits make her beautiful cross-stitching achievable for even the novice stitcher.  Unfortunately, we missed each other at the last Clover Market, but I'm looking forward to seeing her in another week and again at Renegade in June!

friend friday & some links

via apricot basket
Wow, what a rewarding week.  It started off with this Apartment Therapy post that I was featured in, and ended with a mention in yesterday's Etsy Finds email!  So, I wanted to say hello to any new readers out there.  Hi!

On Fridays I like to share work from friends, and today it's my friend Virginia Evans, aka Apricot Basket.  I mentioned her a few fridays ago (she runs the Etsy dinner meet ups in Philly), but we met at the last Clover Market of 2011.  Now we see each other at least once a week at quizzo!  She takes really pretty pictures that she sells online and at shows.  In fact, she took this funny photo of Steven holding up his copper pipe handiwork on our windy stand last Sunday (we may have forgotten some stand elements after attending a wedding the day before...).  And she has an awesome orange tabby cat named Gwenevere as well.

friend friday & some links

This week has gone like a blur!  I've been busy finishing off projects, like some new booth decoration in time for this weekend.  Yesterday I was up to my elbows in modge podge, earlier in the week i had hot glue stuck on every finger.  You get the picture.

Instead of introducing one new friend this Friday, I wanted to encourage you to check out all the vendors at Clover Market.  There's quite a number that I have only met virtually (chez sucre chez, joeyfivecents, sevani botanica...) and I'm looking forward to meeting them all in person.

p.s. the photo is of my new 'love arrows'.  each one has a handmade heart shaped tip

--> idea is: write a message, curl it up on an arrow shaft, tie it with a hemp bow and send it to someone special <--

p.p.s. thanks for the patience with my ongoing web layout changes.  this morning I had some inspiration and I am happy to say that I love the new changes, so it will be staying like this for awhile :)

new friend friday & some links

necklace via Virginie Millefiori

This week has just flown by!  And with it came a few more shows to add to my calendar.  I'll be at Clover Market this April 15th, next Sunday 15th.  With just over 100 vendors, including some yummy food, I'm really looking forward to opening day.  I have a few new lines to unveil and I can't wait to get some feedback!

In honor of spring, I wanted to introduce a friend I made last winter in New York.  Virginie Millefiori is a French jewelry designer based in New York.  She makes the most delicate enameled pieces, all by hand.  Picture her sawing intricate designs into sheets of metal, polishing by hand and enameling.  Amazing!  I was lucky enough to get a necklace for my birthday last winter and since then she has added to her collection.  It's only a matter of time before I cave and get another piece.  Until then I hope to see her soon back in New York and to finally meet her kitty, who I've heard so much about :)  Check her out!

friend friday & some links

This week I'm introducing my friend Tracy of Punkrocknits.  We met early on in my crafting experience and hit it off straight away, in fact I'm excited to say that this week we found out that we will be sharing a booth at Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn this June!  Tracy makes wonderfully chunky, colorful knitwear, and she methodically sources all her materials from unique suppliers.  I am always amazed at how she remembers the source of every fiber and will happily pass on their details to enthusiastic customers.  So excited we will get to have two days of hanging out in lovely Williamsburg!

(new) friend friday & some links

My friend Virginia runs a fun meet up for fellow Etsy-ers in Philly called Philly Etsy Show & Tell.  It usually meets once a month or every other month depending on people's schedules.  Last night I got to meet Sarah and see some of her really pretty prints!  I especially liked this Hibernating Fox print.  I think I'm going to try and make this into a weekly Friday thing.  I meet so many amazing people through my work and it will be fun to share some of them with you.

You may have noticed I've been tinkering with the site.  I'm hoping to finish messing around next week, but I need my CSS expert at home to help.  I surprise myself with what I'm able to accomplish coding-wise, but it always gets to a point where I get stuck.  Anyway, please be patient with me while I figure out the new layout/images!  Here's some links I've been spending time with this week...

I've gotten into Draw Something (like everyone else it seems)
A history of London's coffeehouses
Neon dip-dyed easter eggs
A really impressive Sydney baking blog
A song that's been in my head a lot

Lastly, I'll be in Doylestown tomorrow for the 5 Star Crafters show!
